Each year in Europe the Gnome Foundation holds an annual congress called the Gnome Users and Developers European Conference - GUADEC.

And we found over the last six years that this has been a good way to bring together the developers and the information technology policy and decision makers altogether to one point.

Two years ago, in Dublin, Ireland, at the Trinity College, Marcos Mazoni came to present the when and how “software livre” had been implemented and deployed here in Brazil. And at that congress at Trinity College there was an opportunity for an exchange between ideas for using the free desktop in “Extremadura” and in other regions here on Brazil.

What we’ve found is that having Gnome Foundation having one meeting in Europe each year is not a sufficient way to grow a free desktop around the world.

And so, in this year, with the invitation of Celepar, Gnome Foundation decided to hold its first regional meeting in this part of the world and starting today we have our Forum Gnome.

And so today and tomorrow we hope not only to exchange some ideas on how to make the Gnome desktop better, but also we have with us some very good professors, some good trainers, who will provide some tutorials, some information on the tools that are necessary to write better applications for “software livre”.

And Gnome Foundation looks forward to further cooperation here in Brazil.

A cada ano a Fundação Gnome realiza na Europa um congresso anual chamado Conferência Européia de Usuários e Desenvolvedores Gnome, em Inglês, GUADEC.

Nós descobrimos nos últimos seis anos que esta tem sido uma boa maneira de reunir os desenvolvedores e os responsáveis por decisões e políticas em tecnologia da informação todos juntos em um único local.

Dois anos atrás, em Dublin, na Irlanda, no Trinity College, Marcos Mazoni veio apresentar como e quando o software livre foi implementado aqui no Brasil. Naquele congresso no Trinity College tivemos uma oportunidade para a troca de idéias para o uso do desktop livre em todo mundo “Extremadura” (é uma região da Espanha que adotou em ampla escala o software livre) e em outras regiões aqui no Brasil.

O que nós descobrimos é que ter a Fundação Gnome realizando apenas um encontro anual na Europa não é suficiente para estabelecer um desktop livre em todo o mundo.

Desta forma, neste ano, a convite da Celepar, a Fundação Gnome decidiu realizar seu primeiro encontro regional nesta parte do mundo, e iniciando hoje nós temos o nosso Forum Gnome.

E assim hoje e amanhã nós esperamos não apenas trocar algumas idéias sobre como fazer o desktop Gnome melhor, mas também temos conosco alguns professores muito bons, alguns bons instrutores, que irão fornecer tutoriais, informação sobre as ferramentas que são necessárias para escrever melhores aplicações para o software livre.

E a Fundação Gnome almeja ainda mais cooperação aqui no Brasil.
